The National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) advises consumers to shop safely because scammers have made these offers a “strong favorite.”
The government said that over £60 million has reportedly been lost due to reports to Action Fraud, the national reporting center for fraud and cybercrime, showing that approximately 100,000 UK residents have been victims of online shopping fraud in the past 13 months.

For the most crucial online accounts, such as email, banking, or payment accounts, the NCSC encouraged online buyers to use strong, unique passwords. They also suggested using three random words to construct a password.

When paying online, customers should use a credit card and check the legitimacy of retailers on reputable consumer websites before making a purchase. People should only enter the required information when purchasing online, which is frequently denoted with an asterix.

According to the Minister for Cybercrime, “With a record number of cyberattacks this year, we all must take some steps to maintain ourselves and our families safe from tricksters while shopping online, specifically in the Boxing Day sales, which have become a firm favorite for fraudsters.”

“Government and police action has seen many convictions on cyber fraud in the past year, and we should all play our part to wipe out this dreadful crime that can devastate lives,” the statement reads.

“Scammers will take any opportunity to attempt and deceive the public and businesses into parting with their money, so it’s vitally important that we all know how to defend ourselves,” said the head of national resilience and strategy at the NCSC.

Even though con artists are skilled at convincing victims, there are practical precautions you can take to avoid being a victim of cybercrime.
